Floridan Well Maintenance: on SW 10th Street between SW 24th Ave and SW 28th Ave

The City of Deerfield Beach, Environmental Services team would like to advise residents that Layne Christenson Inc. is scheduled to perform maintenance work to Floridan well #2, located on SW 10th Street between SW 24th Ave. and SW 28th Ave. As part of normal well-field maintenance, our contractor will have heavy machinery on site, including a crane and pumps.

Work is anticipated beginning November 3rd through December 31st, 2023. No impacts to traffic are anticipated.

The well is undergoing routine maintenance, which is typical for these types of wells. This includes cleaning the well casing and identifying why the well pumps so much sand. Once we identify the why, the contractor will work to reduce the sand output by over-pumping and casing off the section that causes the sand.

This process will take approximately 60 days.

Since the well produces sand, the water plant has to reduce the amount of water the well pumps and thus reduce the amount our reverse osmosis plant can treat. Once the sand concentration is reduced, it will allow the water plant to use the Floridan aquifer more, which is abundant in nature, and reduce the laborious effects of utilities pumping water from the more shallow Biscayne aquifer.
