This is an educational experience for students the week of Monday, October 19-Friday October 23rd! During Florida City Government Week we will celebrate our city and foster civic education. We will share about our municipal employee jobs, some equipment, history and more! We want to show youth how city services impact their lives.

Why are we hosting this? Well, city government is the government most citizens are familiar with and impacted by day to day. It is critical that youth understand how the city works, services the city provides and how imperative they are in building a phenomenal community. This year the theme is “My City: I’m Part of It, I’m Proud of It”. The City of Deerfield Beach Parks and Recreation Department is following and monitoring the current COVID-19 situation and will be following the recommended CDC & Broward County guidelines. As a result, the community service will include using the Clean Swell App (details below).

Community Service Day encourages students to beautify our city at a clean-up location of their choice and participate by downloading and using the Clean Swell App. Don't forget to #DFBStudentGov and #FLCityWeek. We appreciate your patience as we make every effort to provide a way to do community service in a manner that you can feel safe during COVID-19. Click the first link below for a tutorial about how to use the Clean Swell App and the second for instructions. Note, "Broward" auto-populates under group and afterward, you can add your current location as Deerfield Beach.

If you would like community service hours for your efforts email lderoseney@deerfield-beach.com and please note proof of participation is required. Include a photo of participation, community service form already filled out, and a screenshot of your cleanup summary from the Clean Swell App. If you don't have a community service hours form there is one you can receive in the second link above. Scroll towards the bottom and the fourth bullet point has the link. The International Coastal Cleanup also has some T-shirts available for those who turn in all required information to the email above (supplies are limited).

Rules: Volunteer with someone from your home. Don't forget to wear PPE and follow CDC guidelines. Don't pick up hazardous or unsafe items. Call 911 in an emergency. Try to use a bucket instead of a plastic bag and if you are going to a local park call ahead to ensure you know their current hours of operation.

Jimmy Johns in the City of Deerfield Beach is offering those youth who participate in today's community service and follow all rules regarding proof of participation a Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sub! Again, this can only be utilized at the following location: 1137 S Military Trail Deerfield Beach, FL 33442. Once you email your efforts to Luz Deroseney at the email above a link can be provided for the code. The code is valid through Thursday, November 5th, 2020.
