Senior Services

The Department of Senior Services provides quality programs and services to promote social, physical, and psychological well-being in response to the needs of adults, seniors and children of Deerfield Beach and northern Broward County. In 1981, a joint effort between the City and the Area Agency on Aging of Broward County created the Northeast (NE) Focal Point Senior Center to provide federally mandated services to individuals age sixty and over. Senior Services also administers the Intergenerational Adult Day Services Center, the Creole/Portuguese Adult Day Services, the Child Care Center, the Alzheimer’s Day Care Center, and the Thrift Shop.

Funding for the Senior Services Department comes from federal and state administered grants, fees for services, fund-raisers, the Area Agency on Aging, NE Focal Point CASA*, Inc. (Children’s, Alzheimer’s, Senior and Adult Services), United Way of Broward County, NE Focal Point Thrift Shop, and the City of Deerfield Beach General Fund.

Senior Center

The Senior Center provides services and activities to promote the well-being of the senior population. These include information and referral, public education, health support, counseling, recreation, transportation, nutrition, legal assistance, volunteer opportunities and the emergency home energy assistance program.

Intergenerational Adult Day
The Adult Day Services Center and Creole/Portuguese Adult Day Services Program provides a structured program of supportive services and activities for functionally impaired and frail adults. This service maintains the family unit and prevents premature institutionalization.

Child Care Center

The Intergenerational Child Care Center licensed by Broward County provides preschoolers with developmentally appropriate activities in a learning environment.

Alzheimer’s Day Care Center
The Alzheimer Day Care Center provides respite to caregivers and activities to individuals stricken with Alzheimer’s disease and memory disorders. Case management and weekly support groups assist caregivers with coping skills.

Thrift Shop
The Thrift Shop receives tax-deductible donations of merchandise from individuals, realtors, estates, consignment shops, and other businesses. Volunteers operate the shop under the leadership of the management team. Proceeds from the shop supplement grant funding for all programs in the Department of Senior Services.
