HURRICANE ADVISORY #17
BROWARD COUNTY, FL - A hurricane warning and storm surge warning are in effect for Broward County. Hurricane Irma is a Category 4 storm moving closer to South Florida for this weekend with initial tropical storm force winds expected beginning Saturday. A hurricane warning means that hurricane conditions are expected here within 24 hours or less.
All persons in South Florida should take shelter by early Saturday morning. .
Select this map for a list of a list of Unsheltered Homeless pick-up points and select here for a list of General Population Shelters. Now that a Hurricane Warning Advisory has been issued, pursuant to an evacuation order, buses will begin to pick-up and transport people experiencing homelessness from the pick-up points to General Population shelters.
Persons experiencing homelessness should take the first available bus at the pick-up points.
Persons experiencing homelessness will be able to take one suitcase or duffel bag or plastic bag of belongings with them. If they have any more belongings they will be able to leave them at the designated feeding program or shelter pick-up point nearest them until the "all clear" to return has been announced.
