HURRICANE IRMA ADVISORY #11
BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The entire County is now under a Hurricane Watch and portions are under a Storm Surge Watch. A mandatory evacuation is in effect for residents east of Federal Highway in anticipation of powerful Hurricane Irma.
The National Hurricane Center has included warnings about the possibility of "life threatening storm surge." Cities included in the Storm Surge Watch are Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale Beach, Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach, where over three feet of storm surge is possible. Storm surges are possible as early as Saturday afternoon.
Storm surge is a rise of water above the normal level along a shore. In addition, higher tides are already predicted at this time due to the proximity of a full moon.
Now is the time to evacuate. If you are in need of a shelter, visit this website.
