In light of recent developments and the Broward County 11AM update the City of Deerfield Beach is encouraging residents who live in low-lying areas, mobile home parks or east of Federal Highway, including the barrier island to voluntarily evacuate and find shelter with friends or family.
Broward County will declare a State of Emergency tomorrow at noon and plan to put into effect a mandatory evacuation order. All Broward County general population shelters will also be open to residents by then. For the list of those shelters, please log onto www.broward.org/hurricane. For Deerfield Beach residents, the closest shelter is Monarch High School located at 5050 Wiles Road, Coconut Creek. If you choose to take refuge at one of the public shelters you must bring your own food and items that will keep you comfortable as you ride out the storm.
Those residents who evacuate must remember they will need I.D./proof of residency upon returning to their home. After the storm law enforcement will not let residents back into their homes without that documentation.
