FDOT: Upcoming Traffic Alerts

Hillsboro Boulevard Improvements Project from Military Trail to US 1 in Deerfield Beach

  • Periodic lane closures in each direction of Hillsboro Boulevard from Military Trail to US 1 will be closed evenings between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. until further notice for overlay and street resurfacing.
  • The outside lane of eastbound Hillsboro Boulevard from Military Trail to SW 1st Terrace will be closed through mid-May for widening, sidewalk, drainage and signal improvements.
  • The outside lane of eastbound Hillsboro Boulevard from I-95 to SW 3rd Avenue / Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue will be closed through mid-May for through Friday for widening and sidewalk improvements.
  • The right lane of eastbound Hillsboro Boulevard before Military Trail will be a right-turn only lane through June 2017. Two through lanes will remain open leading into the construction zone east of Military Trail.
  • The outside lane of westbound Hillsboro Boulevard from SW 1st Terrace to Military Trail will be closed May 25 through mid-June for drainage, widening, signal and sidewalk improvements.

Description: Project improvements include improving the off-ramp from northbound I-95 to eastbound Hillsboro Boulevard including adding a new signalized intersection and adding second lane to increase capacity; relocating and upgrading drainage structures; upgrading crosswalk ramps to meet ADA requirements; constructing new stamped asphalt crosswalks from east of Natura Boulevard to US 1; upgrading existing pedestrian signals to countdown timers; upgrading signalized intersections to mast arms; installing new decorative lighting; constructing new medians east of SE 2 Avenue; and removing old asphalt and resurfacing the roadway. In addition, signs and pavement markings will be upgraded to reflect the new roadway configuration: from Military Trail to Dixie Highway, there will be three 11-foot travel lanes in each direction; from NE / SE 2 Avenue to US 1, there will be two 11-foot lanes in each direction. Also, bike lanes or sharrows (symbols to designate the outside travel lane will be shared by vehicles and bicycles) will be added as follows: from Military Trail to NW/SW 2 Terrace, there will be a 4-foot-wide bike lane; from NW / SW 2 Terrace to NE / SE 2 Avenue, sharrows in the outside travel lane will designate a shared lane; from NE / SE 2 Avenue to US 1, there will be a 7-foot-wide bike lane. 


I-95 from north of Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale to south of SW 10th Street in Deerfield Beach

  • Three lanes of northbound I-95 between Commercial Boulevard and SW 10th Street will be closed Sunday through Thursday, with the first lane closing at 10:30 p.m., the second lane closing at 11:30 p.m. and the third lane closing at 12:30 a.m. until 5:30 a.m.
  • Three lanes of southbound I-95 between SW 10th Street and Commercial Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday with the first lane closing at 10:30 p.m., the second lane closing at 11:30 p.m. and the third lane closing at 12:30 a.m. until 5:30 a.m.
  • The I-95 southbound exit ramp to westbound Atlantic Boulevard is completely closed through fall 2017. Traffic is detoured to a temporary ramp just south of the closed ramp.
  • The I-95 northbound exit ramp to Atlantic Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday nights between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 and Copans Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from eastbound Atlantic Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday nights between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via South Dixie Highway and Copans Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from westbound Atlantic Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday nights between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 and Cypress Creek Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound exit ramp to Copans Road will be closed Sunday through Thursday nights between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 and Sample Road. FHP will on site to assist motorists.
  • I-95 northbound entrance ramp from eastbound Sample Road will be closed Sunday through Thursday nights between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via North Dixie Highway and Copans Road. FHP will on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from westbound Sample Road will be closed Sunday through Thursday nights between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 southbound and Copans Road. FHP will on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound exit ramp to Sample Road will be closed Sunday through Thursday nights between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 and SW 10th StreetFHP will on site to assist motorists.
  • Two lanes in each direction of Atlantic Boulevard from Dixie Highway to Andrews Avenue will be closed Sunday through Thursday night between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. and Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • The westbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard at I-95 will be completely closed Sunday through Thursday nights between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 northbound and Copans Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.

Description: This project will extend the High Occupancy Toll lanes from north of Commercial Boulevard to south of SW 10th Street in Broward County. The scope of work includes adding a lane and converting the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes to create two express lanes in each direction. Other work includes: installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and tolling equipment; widening bridges; and installing noise barrier walls at locations along I-95 northbound between Atlantic Boulevard and Sample Road, and along I-95 southbound north of Sample Road.

I-95 Interchange from Hillsboro Boulevard to SW 10th Street

  • The I-95 southbound exit ramp to SW 10th Street will be fully closed as needed Sunday through Friday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Motorists can detour via Hillsboro Boulevard.
  • Traffic on the I-95 southbound exit ramp to SW 10th Street has been shifted to the east to accommodate the ramp widening.
  • The outside lanes of I-95 southbound from Hillsboro Boulevard to SW 10th Street will be closed Sunday through Friday with the first lane closing at 9 p.m., the second lane closing at 10 p.m. and the third lane, if necessary, closing at 12:30 a.m. until 5 a.m.
  • Two westbound lanes of SW 10th Street at I-95 will be closed Sunday through Friday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • The sidewalk on the north side of SW 10th Street between SW 12th Avenue and SW Natura Boulevard is closed through June 2017. Signs are in place to direct pedestrians to the south sidewalk.

Description: This project consists of widening southbound I-95 to add an auxiliary lane from the Hillsboro Boulevard entrance ramp to the SW 10th Street exit ramp, widening the existing southbound I-95 exit ramp to SW 10th Street, addition of a free flow right turn lane to westbound SW 10thStreet, widening of westbound SW 10th Street to add an acceleration lane, utility relocation, milling and resurfacing, bridge widening, installation of barrier walls, curbs, sidewalks, guardrail, drainage, overhead signs, signing and pavement markings, signals, lighting, and retaining walls. This is the first of five interchange improvement projects throughout Broward and Palm Beach Counties. 


Hillsboro Boulevard over Florida's Turnpike Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Coconut Creek and Deerfield Beach

  • The outside lane of westbound Hillsboro Boulevard at Florida’s Turnpike will be closed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • The outside lane of westbound Hillsboro Boulevard at Florida’s Turnpike will be closed Sunday through Thursday night between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
  • Two outside lanes of westbound Hillsboro Boulevard at Florida’s Turnpike will be closed Sunday through Thursday night between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • The sidewalk along the south side of Hillsboro Boulevard over Florida’s Turnpike will be closed through May. Pedestrians will be detoured to the sidewalk on the north side of the road at NW 39th Avenue and NW 45th Avenue.
  • Two lanes in each direction of Florida’s Turnpike at Hillsboro Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Description: The improvements under this contract include replacing the pedestrian fencing on both sides of the Hillsboro Boulevard Bridge over Florida’s Turnpike
