Playful City USA honors cities and towns across the country for putting the needs of families first so kids can learn, grow and develop important life skills. These communities are transforming ordinary places into recreational spaces and using play as a solution to the challenges facing their residents.The 2017 Playful City USA recognition includes 258 communities from Richmond, Virginia to Richmond, California that make it as easy as possible for kids to play. In total, these communities feature more than 14,000 safe and engaging playspaces that serve more than 4 million kids.The City of Deerfield Beach and its community partners have worked hard to create active play in our community. The Parks and Recreation Department oversees over 230 developed acres at 57 sites and oversees and maintains approximately 470 acres of open space, medians, right-of-way, parks, the beach, four community centers, a 6-court tennis center and other city owned property, such as Broward Sheriff’s Office police and fire rescue Stations. We feature a 976-foot International Fishing Pier, one-mile stretch of public beach, jogging/walking trails, boat ramps, a marina, 2 splash pads and fifty-seven (57) public parks. We have a wide range of programming for all ages, including youth and adult sports, instructor led fitness classes, after-school care, summer camp, Movies in the Park, Game Nights, Arts and Crafts classes, cooking classes, environmental workshops, Teen Cross Fit, swim team, swim lessons and more.The City of Deerfield Beach recognizes the benefits of play, and will continue to strive to incorporate playability and an active lifestyle for the families in our community.Mayor Bill Ganz and the City Commission recognize that the City of Deerfield Beach has a responsibility to provide safe recreational facilities for the children of our community. Evidence of our commitment can be seen in the parks and programs offered, but also in the number of sports fields the City has to offer, as well as a world-class aquatics center.As cities are becoming hotbeds for innovation, communities across the country are creating innovative ways to attract and retain residents.
